Soda Bread
Ingredients
- 200g plain white flour
- 300g coarse brown flour
- 3 tbsp bran
- 2 tbsp wheat germ
- 2 heaped tsp baking powder
- 600 – 900ml milk
- 1 desert spoon treacle
- 1 tsp salt
Method
- Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl
- Add treacle
- Stir in enough milk to give a moist (but not sloppy) mixture
- Place in a well oiled loaf tin (about 900g)
- Bake in a preheated oven at 200 degrees Celsius for 20 minutes or until risen
- Reduce the heat to 175 degrees Celsius and bake for a further hour
- If not cooked after testing return to oven for a further 10 to 15 minutes
- Serve with butter and fresh oysters or prawns
